The Southwestern Company Internship Difference Blog

Rory Vaden, a Southwestern Company alumnus and co-founder of Southwestern Consulting, was recently invited by Zig Ziglar to share his “Take the Stairs” philosophy on Zig and team’s show, Success 2.0.

While dining with Zig, his wife Jean, and son, Tom, Rory pulled out a Flip camera and conducted an impromptu interview, asking about direct selling and Southwestern Company.  As you would expect, Zig was insightful when it came to Rory’s line of questioning.  Rory also has five important lessons Zig shared with him over a series of meetings on his blog.

When it came to direct selling, Zig commented about the virtues the industry offers including encouragement and a good product.

Zig Ziglar on Southwestern CompanyBecause of Southwestern Company’s established reputation in sales as a breeding ground for successful alumni, Zig was all too familiar with us.  He congratulates Southwestern Company for the reputation our company has built for all sales people.  Most important, he acknowledges it as being done it the right way.

Southwestern Consulting is a sister company to Southwestern Company that offers coaching, training and motivation in sales via seminars, personal coaching and topic-specific training.

Wow! This is awesome. Zig Ziglar is a living legend when it comes to motivation and teaching about the same success principles Southwestern does at Sales School. It is awesome the things he said about sales, direct selling and Southwestern Company!

Yes, this was very cool. I want to thank Southwestern Consulting’s Rory Vaden for his thoughtfulness to conduct the quick interview – and to get it on film. At Southwestern Company, we really have a great respect for motivation and motivators such as Zig. Awesome!

  2. Melanie says:

This is pretty cool! Very proud of Southwestern… it’s awesome that Zig Ziglar talked so good about SW’s direct selling in such a positive light. What an honor! :)

  3. Aaron Schafer says:

That is really cool. It has always been clear that outside companies love students coming out of Southwestern, but it is always awesome to hear such positive things from someone as famous as Zig Ziglar!

    • Trey Campbell, APR says:

You said it Aaron – to hear it from his mouth was awesome! Southwestern Company has a storied history. What makes it so storied is the students who participate.

  4. Joe Sung says:

I love how Zig Ziglar thanked/congratulated Southwestern for the solid reputation that we have built for all sales people. Unfortunately not enough college students feel this way about SW (probably bc they don’t know as much as Zig does about business/sales!), but it feels good to be working for a company that is lauded for doing what’s right.

    • Trey Campbell, APR says:

Joe – you got it right. It is a matter of educating those who do not know about Southwestern Company and the benefits of direct selling. Zig is well respected and knows his stuff. I applaud you for your efforts to always do the right thing and teach others what you have learned through hard work and persistence.

  5. Lucy Morton-Hicks says:

I agree with Aaron. It’s encouraging to hear him talk so humbly about how everyone needs sales. Zig Ziglar has motivated many of us Southwestern students and the fact that he keeps up and gives his appreciation here for us and salespeople in general is awesome!! Thanks Zig!!

    • Trey Campbell, APR says:

Lucy – sales is something each person needs to learn to master in their lifetime to help with relationships, business and selling oneself. It is awesome not only how humble Zig is, but how you have followed in the steps he teaches to teach others. AWESOME!

  6. Maurice Howell says:

Having someone as great as Zig speak is a testiment that what we do is a great thing. My first years have begin to understand that this internship is not just a quick way to earn money, but a unbelievable way to learn skills that will be forever engrained in their lives and their careers.
