The Southwestern Company Internship Difference Blog

I received a recent e-mail update from the National Consumers League (NCL) I would like to share.  It was from Executive Director, Sally Greenberg.

In her e-mail, she took the time to remind the sponsors of the NCL’s 2009 Scam-Free Calendar where it was being distributed.  For the third year, Southwestern Company has sponsored the month of June.  The calendar is for education and consumer awareness.

For the second time in three years, Southwestern chose the subject of traveling sales crews.  This is an important issue to our company , and as such, we feel it is very important to educate lawmakers and consumers about the potential dangers they pose to both communities and individual consumers.  It includes a variety of tips such as checking for a solicitor’s permit, collecting information about the company and verifying identification of the person at your door.

For 2009, every member of Congress will receive the calendar.  The remaining 20,000 calendars were distributed to various “consumer protection-type offices” all over the country.  Many are distributing them free to the audiences they serve.  They include Attorney General offices and consumer protection and affairs divisions among others.  The distribution is far reaching – from Maine to Alaska!

This is just one more tool to educate consumers.

Thanks again to all the people at Southwestern who make our summers easier by doing these types of things. Students who do Southwestern are a step ahead of all others in the world–it’s great to know we’ve got recognition from people in high places. You rock!

Jared – thanks for your vote of confidence. It’s young people just like yourself who will be the leaders of tomorrow. Southwestern Company and each individual that participates in the training the student dealers receive would be doing a serious injustice if we did not put forth the effort to do it right. We owe it to the student, their parents, the consumer and all the thousands of alumni who swung the sample case in years past!
